Together with our delivery partners, Gleeds is about to embark on the second year of works with HS2 Ltd, following a successful 12 months for the rail giant’s Commercial Delivery and Controls (CDC) Framework.

Known as the ‘Power of 6’, we teamed up with Arcadis, Currie & Brown, Gardiner & Theobald, Grant Thornton UK LLP and WSP to deliver a wide range of commercial services under Lot 2 of the CDC Framework. Over an initial four-year period, the appointment covers commercial management, including pre-contract development and post-contract management support, as well as cost verification across the supply chain, scenario modelling and stress testing of procurement and contracting strategies.

Since being awarded the contract, the Power of 6 group has successfully completed the first tranche of cost verification audits and assisted with ongoing commercial planning for Euston station. The group has also carried out stress testing of commercial delivery models to help inform future delivery across the whole project.  In addition, it has supported the preparation of invitation to tender (ITT) documentation for HS2 Ltd and is  now assisting with bringing the track and rail systems packages to market.

Commenting on what has been a productive year Paul Knighting, UK head of infrastructure at Gleeds, said:

“Despite being appointed during a global pandemic, the Power of 6 mobilised a 70-strong team which brought together the very best talent from across each business for the benefit of HS2. We’ve introduced a number of knowledge-sharing initiatives to enable cross-industry learning and are constantly improving – creating efficiencies and generating savings across the board through intelligent application of the latest technology. I’m looking forward to replicating the success we’ve achieved as we go into year two.”

Andrew Cubitt, procurement and supply chain director for HS2 Ltd, added:

“HS2 will transform long distance rail travel across the UK, providing extra capacity, better links between north and south and help with the fight against climate change by providing low carbon transport options for the future. As we work to build the first stages, the CDC framework plays a crucial role, providing us with the specialist expertise we need to deliver the best value for the taxpayer.
